In a major twist in Maharashtra politics just prior to the Lok Sabha elections, veteran Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil’s son Sujay Vikhe Patil today (Tuesday, 12 March) joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reports The New Indian Express. Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil is currently also the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP chief Raosaheb Danve were present at the event in South Mumbai where Sujay formally joined the party.
Sujay’s move follows the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) denying Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil’s request to leave the Ahmednagar Lok Sabha constituency for his son.
Meetings were held between BJP leader Girish Mahajan and Sujay prior to his formal induction in the party.
The sitting MP from Ahmednagar is BJP’s Dilip Gandhi.
