Actor-turned-politician Sunny Deol may face action from the Election Commission of India (EC) after a report prepared by the District Election Office of Gurdaspur calculated that his election expenditure crossed the maximum allowed spending limit of Rs 70 lakh, reports India Today.
The report says that Deol spent approximately Rs 78.52 lakh on his campaign in the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency, where he emerged victorious on a BJP ticket.
The report has now been forwarded to the EC for deliberation over its findings. Last month, a notice was communicated to Deol from Gurdaspur District Election Officer asking him to respond to finding that he had crossed that maximum spending limit.
Till now, Deol is believed to be the only candidate who breached the statutory spending limit during the May 2019 Lok Sabha polls; his closest opponent, Sunil Kumar Jakhar of the Congress, had spent around Rs 61.36 lakh.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
