Super Cop Ajit Doval who is a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was officially reappointed as the National Security Advisor (NSA), reports ANI.
Apart from securing a renewal, Doval’s position has also been upgraded from the rank of Minister of State (MoS) to that of a Cabinet minister, in recognition of his contribution over the last five years.
Doval, who was appointed as India’s fifth NSA in 2014, has been credited with improving the internal security of the Indian mainland and is said to have played a vital role in the 2016 Indian Army surgical strikes and the IAF Balakot Air Strikes. He also also been credited for securing a quick release of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
Doval is also highly credited along with the then Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and Indian Ambassador to China Vijay Keshav Gokhale for exhibiting diplomatic assertion while resolving the 72-day Doklam standoff with China.
Doval is also heading the Strategic Policy Group which is at the top level of the three-tiered National Security Council.
