The Supreme Court move to open its doors to the public for guided tours is proving to be a big hit among the people. People from all over are thronging the campus to see its legacy. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had announced that the public could gain access to the court premises on Saturdays as there were no hearings, through guided tours, reports The New Indian Express.
The portal has drawn a mind-boggling number of requests, with a significant amount of them being eager law students. The tour has been a hit with people from across all age groups and professions.
The portal has received 600 applications up until now, said officials handling it. The tours, which lasts for an hour-and-a-half on Saturdays, takes 20 people in two batches around the court premises. The visitors are also given a brief about the operational structure of the court and methodologies used along with the legal jargon used in courtrooms. The visitors also have the benefit of having a glance at the judges’ library where judges spend a majority of their time researching issues before a hearing.
Courtroom staff members have been trained to guide visitors around the apex court’s premises, with the court also planning to increase the number of visitors. “Visitors are quite amazed by the life-size pictures of former chief justices. They show a lot of eagerness in knowing the history of the court premises,” an official said.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
