A suspected case of Bubonic plague has emerged in Bayannur which falls under China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Press Trust of India has reported.
The region has now sounded a level III plague prevention and control warning. The case was reported on Saturday (4 July) and the plague warning will continue till the end of 2020.
"At present, there is a risk of a human plague epidemic spreading in this city. The public should improve its self-protection awareness and ability, and report abnormal health conditions promptly", a health official was quoted as saying.
Incidentally, two confirmed cases of Bubonic Plague have been reported from the Khovd province in western Mongolia. The patients are believed to have contracted the disease after eating Marmot meat - a form of rodent.
The health officials have thus warned people against eating Marmot meat.
A few days ago China had reported the outbreak of a new strain of the H1N1 swine flu virus which is spreading in pig farm workers.
