A video of students in school uniform cleaning toilets in Andipatti of Theni district has caused outrage on social media. The incident occurred at a government high school in the town.
Posting the video on Twitter, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai said that the school education department is in shambles and continues to cheat government school students by not providing them with the basic facilities. He asked whether the minister Anbil Mahesh had forgotten that the government schools were set up for the economically disadvantaged so that they could get a better life.
Further, he said that the government has not taken any measures to prevent such incidents in spite of many such cases.
Recently, in December 2022, six government school students belonging to Scheduled Castes in Erode district were made to clean toilets by the school principal.
Following protests by people, the Theni District Primary Education Officer Senthivel Murugan visited the school. He promised to conduct a detailed investigation and take appropriate action.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
