Tata Power revealed on Monday (13 April) that it had distributed as many as 1.2 lakh homemade cloth masks to the vulnerable sections of migrant workers across the states of Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Odisha, reports Economic Times.
The masks were distributed under Tata Power's woman-based micro-enterprise initiative christened Dhaaga under which the women are trained as artisans in readymade garments manufacturing and traditional handicrafts.
The women members of the Dhaaga initiative from Pune's Mulshi and Maval regions, Tromboy, Jamshedpur and Kalinganagar took up the activity to distribute 1.2 lakh masks. The women under Dhaaga's umbrella were also approached by e-commerce giant Amazon to supply them with cloth masks.
As per the details available about Dhaaga on Tata Power's official website, the women under the initiative make products ranging from kurtis, wrap-arounds, palazzos to handbags. Under the initiative, as many as 500 women in over 45 villages have been trained in making handmade garments.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
