YS Sharmila, leader of the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) and sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, was detained by police in Hyderabad today (24 April).
Police stopped Sharmila while she was en route to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) office investigating the question paper leaks in state government recruitment exams.
In footage released by ANI, police officers can be seen attempting to stop the vehicle carrying Sharmila as it approaches the SIT office.
As the vehicle comes to a stop, Sharmila exits and proceeds to beat and allegedly slap one of the officers. A heated exchange ensues between her and the officer, and other police personnel intervene to restrain her. Another video shows Sharmila hitting a female officer while the police attempt to escort her away from the scene.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
