The exit polls for Maharashtra’s civic elections, released by India Today after polling came to a close, showed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to be ahead in the battle for Nagpur Municipal Corporation. However, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections appears to be a tough fight.
The Shiv Sena is expected to take 86 to 92 seats while the BJP is projected to win in 80 to 88 wards. With five to seven seats, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena is expected to take 8 per cent of the vote share, whereas the Congress is likely to win 30 to 34 seats.
The polling percentage in Mumbai was higher than in the 2012 elections. While 45.3 per cent polling was recorded the previous time, the polling percentage has risen to 55 per cent in this year’s polls.
#BMCelection: 55% voting recorded, highest in past 5 elections.
