Tamil Nadu police arrested nine men in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old girl on Saturday (6 June). The victim alleged that the accused had been assaulting her for the last two years, reports Times of India.
The arrested were identified as A Amaanullah (27), T Bagavathi aka Mohammad Asif (26), Mohammad Rafiq (28), Syed Ibrahim (25), Mohammad Ali (28), K David aka Senthilkumar (30), Irshadh Basha (28), Mohammad Khan (44) from Pollachi and Arun Nehru (28) from Tiruppur. The police are looking for Prabhu (25).
The minor is a class 10 dropout who used to live with her grandmother after her mother died when she was two years' old and her father remarried. The girl told the police that she went to the accused Amaanullah’s house on Thursday evening where he and T Bhagvathi alias Mohammad Asif sexually assaulted her. The minor begged the duo to drop her at her grandmother’s house that evening, but they refused. Another accused, Prabhu, came the same evening on their invitation and allegedly sexually assaulted her.
The family of the victim came to know about the incident when she returned home on Friday and approached Pollachi all-women police.
The police informed that Amaanullah had lured the minor into a relationship and later raped her along with his friends. “They had threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed anything,” a police officer was quoted as saying.
