According to a circular issued by the Tamil Nadu Director of Private Schools, Tamil must now be taught as an 'additional compulsory language' to students of class 9 and 10 in private schools, other than those following the state board.
It will be applicable to students who have chosen languages other than Tamil for their board exams.
The exam for this compulsory additional paper would be conducted separately by the Director of Government Examinations and the syllabus would be determined by the Director of Private Schools.
