Trump Back On Twitter But Remains Indefinitely Suspended From Facebook Following US Capitol Hill Violence

Facebook has announced that it has "indefinitely" suspended US President Donald Trump from its platforms. These restrictions are expected to continue at least till the end of his presidential term.

It had earlier removed a video in which US President Donald Trump urged his supporters, who forced their way into the Capitol, "to go home" but repeated his allegations of fraud in the presidential elections, and blocked his account.

It announced on Thursday (7 January) that the restrictions will continue till the end of his term on 20 January.

"We believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great. Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete," Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a blog post.

Trump was also blocked for 24 hours by Twitter but he is now back on the platform after he shared a video of him condemning the Capitol Hill violence and conceding the presidential election.

Twitter though has warned Trump that further violations of its policy may result in a permanent ban from the platform.

Trump came under exceeding scrutiny from big tech firms like Twitter and Facebook in the run-up to the presidential polls. This action has been dubbed by many to be a selective targeting of conservative voices by largely "woke and left-liberal" social media platforms.

The culmination of the US Presidential election saw Twitter placing unprecedented restrictions on Trump's tweets in which he alluded to alleged voter fraud.
