In a positive development, under the Centre's flagship, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) more than a lakh rural households are being provided with fresh water taps each day since the beginning of the unlock period starting on 1 June, reports Times of India.
The development was made public by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi from the ramparts of Red Fort during his seventh Independence Day speech.
Over the past year, the JJM has already provided over two crore new tapped water connections, especially benefiting the tribal households based in far-flung rural areas. Now, the increased rate under the JJM comes as a further fillip for the Government which is aiming at providing all households with tapped water connections by 2024.
Sharing the development of JJM's progress, PM Modi also said, "I am very proud to tell you that our dream of making available pure drinking water to all the people is getting realised. The solution to several health problems is directly linked to pure drinking water. It also contributes to the nation's economy. that's why we ave started the JJM."
