Union Cabinet Approves Rs 1.31 Lakh Crore PM-POSHAN Scheme For School Students, To Subsume Mid-Day Meal Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union Cabinet on Wednesday (29 September) gave its nod to start PM POSHAN scheme to provide mid-day meal to students of more than 11.2 lakh government and government-aided schools across the country.
The scheme will run for 5 years and Rs 1.31 lakh crores will be spent on it, Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said on Wednesday (29 September), reports ANI.
PM POSHAN scheme will subsume the existing Midday Meal Scheme. The scheme will be run in partnership with state governments but the major contribution will be of the Central government, Singh added.
The Cabinet also approved doubling of Nimach-Ratlam railway line at a total estimated cost of Rs 1,095.88 crore and Rajkot-Kanalus railway line at a total estimated cost of Rs 1,080.58 crore.
Further, the cabinet has given its nod to Rs 4,400 crore investment in Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC) Limited in five years to provide support to exporters as well as banks, reports Livemint.
The Cabinet also approved listing of (ECGC) Limited through the Initial Public Offer (IPO) on the stock exchange, said Union Minister Piyush Goyal.
Goyal added that the ECGC could be listed on the stock exchange by next fiscal year.
