Actor turned politician Urmila Matondkar is all set to join the Shiv Sena on Tuesday (1 December) and is all set to also be nominated as a Member of Legislative Council (MLC) in the state, Pres Trust of India has reported.
As per the report, her name is one of the 12 which has been forwarded by the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government to the Governor for MLC nomination. Matondkar as a result is expected to join the Shiv Sena in Uddhav Thackeray's presence.
Matondkar resigned from the Congress party in September 2019 while accusing the party of using her as a pawn for petty internal politics.
The 45-year-old actress had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai North constituency, losing against Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Gopal Shetty.
She also alleged, some of her own party people had worked against her during the elections and they were rewarded later.
Matondkar had also quoted controversy in the past by terming Hinduism as the “most violent religion”. She took an u-turn following a backlash and called Hinduism an epitome of peace.
