In a major development, 21 individuals on board a cruise ship ‘Grand Princess’ stranded off the coast of San Francisco in the United States (US) have tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19), reports Times of India.
The development was made public by the US Vice-President (VP) Mike Pence, who also shared that 19 of the 21 who have tested positive are a part of the cruise ship’s crew, while the other two are passengers.
VP Pence has been tasked directly by President Donald Trump to coordinate the US Government’s response to the outbreak and its containment.
The cruise ship will be brought to a non-commercial dock over the weekend and thereafter all the 3,533 passengers and crew members onboard will be tested.
It should be noted that the cruise ship has been stranded on the coast of San Francisco since Wednesday (4 March) when two people who had been on the ship during one of its previous voyages had contracted the virus. One of the two infected people died later.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
