The United States consulate is undertaking a plan to reduce visa application processing time for Indian applicants, as well as exempt certain classes of applicants belonging to the country from the mandatory interview requirement, reports The Economic Times.
The proposals were revealed in a communication sent out by the Consulate to travel agent associations; the plan is to decrease turnaround times as well as better the customer service support for Indian applicants.
Those applicants below the age of 14, or above the age of 79, can apply for waiver of the interview requirement. Another category which can seek the exemption is those individuals seeking a renewal of their US visa.
The initiative to make the visa application process less cumbersome for Indian applicants may be seen as an attempt by the US to present itself as a more attractive destination for travelers from the country. The country has seen a substantial decline in its share of the global long-haul travel market in recent years.
