Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut has imposed a ban on women using scarves to cover their faces in its campus in a move aimed at preventing unknown individuals from trespassing the premises, ANI has reported.
The university has claimed that scarves made it difficult for authorities to distinguish students from outsiders who fail to show identity cards when caught.
This is being done to restrict entry of unknown people in campus. As of now, we aren't taking action against them, but have given them warning. If this continues we'll inform police: Alka Chaudhury, Chief Proctor on banning head scarf in Chaudhary Charan Singh University(17.7.18) pic.twitter.com/10dbXGIewd

College authorities had earlier encountered several trespassers whom they’ve been letting off with a warning. The authorities claimed that entry of trespassers had deteriorated the campus atmosphere.
The Chief Proctor of the university Alka Choudhury told ANI, "a lot of girls were found from outside". Further she added that the university would inform the police if the menace continued.
However, this administrative decision reportedly faced a major backlash even as some sections of the student community supported the move.
