In a boost for journalists in Uttarakhand, the State's recently sworn-in Chief Minister (CM) Tirath Singh Rawat has declared them as frontline workers and allowed them to get COVID-19 vaccines without any age restrictions, reports Moneycontrol.
In an official statement, the State Government acknowledged that journalists have supported the fight against the pandemic as frontline workers for communication, spreading awareness, and giving out the correct information.
The statement also noted that ever since the lockdown had started, journalists and other employees of the information department have been constantly involved in communication and spreading awareness about correct information in tasks related to fighting COVID-19.
CM Rawat has also directed the concerned officials to extend the vaccination facilities to the rural areas, stressing on making Uttarakhand a state with 100 per cent vaccination. He also issued directions to focus on the testing and treatment of COVID-19 patients.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Delhi unit's president Adesh Gupta has also called on the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to start vaccinating journalists.
