Uttarakhand: Search And Rescue Operations On After Five Navy Personnel Go Missing In Avalanche

Search and rescue operations are on for five Navy personnel who have gone missing after their expedition team was hit by an avalanche while attempting to summit Mount Trishul in Uttarakhand. The search and rescue operations are ongoing in coordination with the Army, Air Force and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), reports say.
Trishul is located at an altitude of 7100 metres.
The 20 member expedition was flagged off from Mumbai on 03 Sep 21. Ten climbers had started their climb to the summit this morning, but were caught in an avalanche short of the summit. While 5 of the 10 are safe SAR for remaining 5 is in progress (2/2).

The five personnel are out of the ten climbers who were caught in an avalanche after they started their approach on the final leg to the summit. They were hit by the avalanche short of the summit, the Navy is reported to have said in a statement.
Five of these 10 have been said to be safe. The 10 are part of the 20-member team which was flagged off from Mumbai on September 3 for this expedition. This report says that the remaining 15 members of this particular expedition are involved in the search and rescue operation.
