Watch: Badminton Ace P V Sindhu Meets PM Narendra Modi After Scripting History At BWF World Championships

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (27 August) met with Badminton ace P V Sindhu and congratulated her for winning the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Championships held between 17 August to 25 August in Basel, Switzerland.

PM Modi shared the moment on Twitter. “India’s pride, a champion who has brought home a Gold and lots of glory! Happy to have met P V Sindhu. Congratulated her and wished her the very best for her future endeavours,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

Asian News International (ANI) shared the video of P V Sindhu meeting PM Modi in presence of her father P V Ramana, coach P Gopichand, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and sports representative from the government Kim.

In a match lasting just 36 minutes on 25 August, the fifth-seeded Sindu trounced the fourth-seeded Japanese Nozomi Okuhara 21-7, 21-7 to clinch the gold medal. Sindhu totally dominated the game from start to finish giving no chance for Okuhara of mounting a comeback.

PM Modi, who was in France attending the G7 Summit had tweeted: “The stupendously talented P V Sindhu makes India proud again!”

“Congratulations to her for winning the Gold at the BWF World Championships. The passion and dedication with which she’s pursued badminton is inspiring. P V Sindhu’s success will inspire generations of players.”

Earlier today, Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju had met with the Badminton star and presented a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to her in presence of her father, coach and BAI President Himanta Biswa Sarma.
