US President Donald Trump in a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the G-20 summit in Osaka, said that India and the US have become great friends and the relationship between the two countries has never been closer, ANI reported.
Trump later congratulated Prime Minister Modi for his landslide victory and commended him for doing a great job. He added that the US is planning on doing “very big trade deals” with India which includes discussion on 5G and defence deals.
Trump said that it was “great fun” talking with Prime Minister Modi in the past and that he was looking forward to more talks during the summit.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had a trilateral discussion with Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Ahead of landing in Japan, Trump had criticised India for increasing tariffs on 28 items, which was in retaliation to the US withdrawing preferential access to Indian products.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
