The president of the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Ravinder Raina on Sunday (26 May) said that his party supports early abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution, reports Economic Times.
"Article 370, a temporary transitional provision, is the biggest injustice with the people of Jammu and Kashmir, while the Article 35A is a constitutional blunder which was included through back door without the consent of Parliament and the President.... We wish the early abrogation of both these constitutional provisions," Raina was quoted in the report as saying.
The statement holds significance as the National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday (24 May) had said that the Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi cannot remove Article 35A and Article 370 of the Constitution.
"Let him be as powerful as he (Modi) likes, he cannot remove Article 370 and Article 35A (from the state of Jammu and Kashmir)," said Abdullah.
Meanwhile, enthused by the Lok Sabha election results in which the BJP registered a remarkable win on 303 seats by itself and also retained all three seats in J&K which it had won in 2014, Raina also exuded confidence that the party will be registering a win and forming the next state government whenever the elections may be held.
