Senior Maharashtra Congress leader and state cabinet minister Nitin Raut on Thursday (16 January) warned Sanjay Raut against making statements like the one he made against former prime minister Indira Gandhi.
Raut a couple of days ago had sensationally claimed that Indira Gandhi used to meet dreaded gangster Karim Lala when she visited Mumbai.
Lala was know for operating extortion rackets and illegal liquor, gambling dens in Mumbai back in the 1980s. He also used to carry out illegal land evictions, kidnappings and contract killings, while also facilitating the drug and counterfeit currency trade.
Following the outrage Raut backtracked and announced that he was withdrawing his statement, while adding that “no one has respected the Gandhi family like he has”.
His new ally the Congress though seems to be in no mood to forgive him and Raut has been quoted as saying that the party is capable of giving befitting replies to him.
Nitin Raut, Maharashtra min & Congress leader: Indira Gandhi was our leader & idol. Sanjay Raut used to comment against BJP even when they were a part of govt but if he thinks we'll keep listening like them, then we won't tolerate this.Hum eent ka jawab patthar se dena jaante hain pic.twitter.com/c7z2BaJi18

Raut had recently also declared the whole Gandhi family as Hindutvawadi.
