Amidst reports of multiple instances of booth capturing, vote tampering and other forms of electoral fraud in West Bengal, the Election Commission (EC) has declared polls conducted in two polling stations, namely polling station number 116 and polling station number 110 in the state’s Barrackpur and Arambag constituencies respectively, to be void, reports ANI.
Repolling is scheduled to be held for these stations on 12 May between 7 am and 6 pm.
"After taking all material circumstances into account, the Election Commission of India hereby declares under Sub-Sections (2) of Section 58 of clause (b) under the Representation of the People Act, 1951 that the poll taken on May 6, 2019, for the aforesaid election at following polling stations (polling station no-116 in Barrackpur and polling station no-110 in Arambag) to be void," the order of the EC declared.
The EC has asked the state’s Chief Electoral Officer to ensure that knowledge of re-polling in these areas is widely made public.
Previously the election body had also declared polling in some booths in Tripura and Puducherry void on 18 April, and had thus ordered re-polling to be conducted.
