BJP leader and former state minister Suvendu Adhikari has taken a lead over Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, as per early trends.
As per a report by India Today, Adhikari has a lead of around 4,500 votes over Mamata. It needs to be seen whether Adhikari manages to retain this early advantage or whether Mamata will be able to turn the tide in her favour.
Adhikari, who was one of the senior most leaders in Trinamool Congress, is a favourite to become the chief minister if BJP manages to win in Bengal. He reportedly quit the party over the rising influence of Mamata's nephew Abhishek Banerjee.
As per early trends, there is a close fight between the TMC and the BJP with the former leading in 136 seats. The BJP is leading on 116 seats.
