In an embarrassment for the AAP, social media users on Tuesday (15 December) dug up an old tweet and manifesto of the AAP wherein the party can be seen promising sweeping farm reforms in the state of Punjab.

Incidentally, the party has now become a vocal critic of these reforms after they were ushered in by the Narendra Modi led central government.

This has included the AAP holding a state-level protest in Punjab against the farm laws on 14 December, demanding that the Modi government repel these "black laws".

"The Aam Aadmi Party has been opposing the black laws since the day the ordinances were issued and will stand shoulder to shoulder with the farmers till these were revoked", AAP leader Bhagwant Mann was quoted as saying.

Even AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal urged people to fast yesterday in solidarity with the protesting farmers. AAP had also held a protest against the laws at Jantar Mantar last month.

Incidentally, following such protests by the AAP, social media users proceeded to dig up old tweets and manifesto promises of the party wherein it promises reforms similar to the ones now ushered in by the Modi govt.

Here is a screenshot of the party's 2017 Punjab manifesto which is accessible online [PDF].

The promise by AAP states that it will encourage private players to enter the agriculture market via "Large scale private investment in Markets and Processing Centres in every district where farmers will sell their produce".

It adds that it will also amend the APMC act to allow farmers to sell their produce to buyers and markets of their choice in and outside the state.
