A patrol of the Indian Army found aircraft wreckage belonging to the United States Air Force (USAF) in Arunachal Pradesh on 30 March. Over the years, wreckage of many aircraft belonging to the US and the Allied forces from WWII have been discovered in the state, reports Times of India.

A 12-member army team was sent to recover the wreckage, and it took eight days and a trek of 10,000 feet. The crash site is 30 km from Roing district and buried under thick undergrowth and snow.

Former US president Barack Obama has lauded the NDA government for its efforts and support in helping the American Defence POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) missions to recover the wreckage of missing aircraft and remains of crew members. Earlier a USAF B-24 bomber and C-109 wreckage was recovered and repatriated to the US.

The US world war records still classify 500 aircraft and 1200 personal missing in action, and this is from the China - Burma - India theatre against against Japan in the 1940s.
