Haryanvi wrestler Babita Phogat, who won gold medals for India during the 2014 and 2018 Commonwealth Games, is set to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi, reports the Hindustan Times.
While revealing the information, Babita Phogat’s father and Dhronacharya awardee Mahavir Phogat also said that he would be switching alliances from Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) to BJP.
Before the 2019 general elections, Mahavir Phogat had joined the Ajay Chautala founded JJP, and was made the party’s sports cell chief. Chautala is the jailed elder son for former Haryana CM OP Chautala.
Mahavir Phogat said: “BJP government did a great work by scrapping Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcating Jammu and Kashmir into two union territories”. He also praised the Haryana government led by CM Manohar Lal “for providing the state with a transparent government and recruiting youth in a fair manner”.
Babita who is currently recovering from an injury also aims to qualify for the 2020 Olympics. The father-daughter duo is currently on their way to the national capital. The Phogat family is expecting the 29-year-old to be fielded from Badhra or Dadri assembly of Dadri district.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
