The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh (UP) is preparing to host a three day global farmers meet to be beginning 26 October, Business Standard has reported.
Expected to be a "big ticket" event like the UP Investors Summit 2018 held earlier this year, the summit 'Krishi Kumbh' (kumbh of agriculture) will incorporate the different aspects of rural economy, including post harvest management.
The summit aimed at promoting modern farming techniques and encouraging better farm income is expected to be attended by 1,00,000 farmers. Yogi Adityanath government is "committed to augment the income of farmers", said agriculture minister Surya Pratap Sahi.
Uttar Pradesh, home to "2.33 crore farming family" and one of the top agricultural states, is also among the leading allied sector producers and dairy producers in India. According to the report, 'Krishi Kumbh' would be another step towards building a stronger rural economy, ensuring support for farmers and socio-economic growth.
Last year, the Adityanath government had announced its flagship crop loan waiver scheme, it took steps towards boosting cultivation of coarse grains, distributed solar pumps and sprinklers to encourage the economising of water use in agriculture. Yogi Adityanath government has earlier held One District One Product Summit – a dedicated MSME conclave.
The UP government pitched 'Krishi Kumbh' at a pre-event meet held in the national capital recently. Agricultural experts, scientists, representatives from public and private sector and entrepreneurs will participate in the summit, said Sahi.
The adding of 'Kumbh' to the mega agricultural summit is a symbolic and significant move. Yogi Adityanath government is gearing to host the Kumbh Mela in Prayag, Allahabad in 2019. Perhaps, its focus on agriculture in the 360 degree approach towards turning around Uttar Pradesh's socio economic growth story includes the 'Krishi Kumbh'.
