In a strong start to its nationwide implementation, the FASTag Annual Pass facility recorded 1.4 lakh activations on the very first day of launch (15 August), according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

By 7 pm on the rollout day, around 1.39 lakh toll transactions had already been processed using the new system.

"The Annual Pass has received an overwhelming response from the National Highway users. Till 7 PM on the first day of implementation, around 1.4 lakh users purchased & activated the annual pass and around 1.39 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plazas," the NHAI said in a statement.

NHAI reported that the Rajmargyatra App saw heavy engagement, with 20,000–25,000 concurrent users active at any given time.

Annual Pass holders also received automated SMS confirmations reflecting zero toll fee deductions, ensuring a seamless user experience.

To handle the surge and assist new users, NHAI has deployed nodal officers at all 1,150 toll plazas where the facility is operational.

Additionally, the 1033 National Highway Helpline has been strengthened with 100 more executives to address grievances and queries.

The FASTag Annual Pass offers a one-time payment option of Rs 3,000, covering one year or 200 toll crossings, whichever is earlier.

It is applicable for all non-commercial vehicles with valid FASTags, and activation is enabled within two hours of payment made through the Rajmargyatra App or the NHAI website.

According to the NHAI, the new facility is aimed at enhancing “Ease of Living” in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of greater technology adoption in citizen services.

With a penetration rate of around 98 percent and over 8 crore users, FASTag has revolutionised the Electronic Toll Collection system in the country, the ministry said.

The introduction of the Annual Pass facility will further reduce travel costs while providing a smooth, economical, and hassle-free highway experience.
