Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday (18 June) announced a new FASTag-based annual pass for non-commercial private vehicles, priced at Rs 3,000.

The pass will be available starting 15 August and will be valid for 200 highway trips or one year, whichever comes first.

Sharing the details on social media platform X, Gadkari said, “The annual pass will enable seamless and cost-effective travel across National Highways throughout the country.”

He added that a dedicated link for activation and renewal will be provided through the Rajmarg Yatra App and the official websites of the NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

The minister said this initiative will help tackle the issue of toll plazas located within 60 km of each other, a longstanding concern for motorists.

“This policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60 km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction,” he said.

Gadkari added that the new system aims to reduce wait times, ease congestion, and minimise disputes at toll plazas.

“The annual pass aims to deliver a faster and smoother travel experience for millions of private vehicle owners,” he said.

According to reports, the government is also working to eventually replace traditional toll booths with a sensor-based, automatic vehicle tracking toll collection system, using the existing FASTag infrastructure to enable barrier-free travel.
