Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (5 January) slammed the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, accusing it of "wasting" the past decade.

Addressing a rally in Delhi's Rohini, he emphasised that Delhi's progress is crucial for India's larger goals and asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the only party capable of fulfilling those aspirations.

"AAP-Da people wasted 10 years of Delhi. Any responsibility given to AAP-da people means... punishment to the people of Delhi," PM Modi said.

"AAPda is clear to the people of Delhi, so only 'Modi, Modi' resounds here. We won't tolerate AAPda, we will bring change," the Prime Minister said, NDTV reported.

Ahead of the rally, PM Modi inaugurated the 13-km Delhi section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, connecting Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh to New Ashok Nagar in the national capital.

The Prime Minister also took a ride on the Namo Bharat train, traveling from Sahibabad station to New Ashok Nagar station.

"We are in the year 2025. Twenty-five years of the 21st century have passed. That means a quarter of a century has passed. During this time, probably two to three generations of youth in Delhi have grown up. Now the coming 25 years are very important for the future of India, and for the future of Delhi," PM Modi said.

With the Delhi Assembly elections set to take place this year, PM Modi accused the AAP leadership of plunging the national capital into repeated crises.

He alleged that their tenure has been marked by corruption and administrative failures.

"I want to appeal to the people of Delhi to give an opportunity to BJP for the bright future of Delhi. It is BJP which can develop Delhi. Now, we can only hear 'AAPda nahi sahenge, badal ke rahenge' in Delhi. Delhi wants development and the people of Delhi have trust in BJP," PM Modi said.

Further slamming AAP for blaming the Centre and exorbitant expenditure on CM's residence, PM Modi said, "Those who brought AAP-da (calamity) on Delhi falsely allege that the Central government does not allow them to work... the Central government does not give them money... how big liars they are... an example of this is their Sheeshmahal. Today itself a leading newspaper has revealed the expenditure incurred on the Sheesh Mahal on the basis of the CAG report," he said.

"When the people of Delhi were struggling with Corona, when the people of Delhi were looking for oxygen and medicines, then the entire focus of these people was on building their Sheesh Mahal. They made a huge budget for Sheesh Mahal. This is their truth... they do not care about the people of Delhi. That is why today every Delhiite is saying... we will not tolerate AAP-Da, we will change it," he added.
