The Delhi High Court has reversed a trial court order, allowing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha to retain his government bungalow.

As reported by NDTV, the trial court had lifted an interim order that prevented the Rajya Sabha secretariat from evicting Chadha from the allocated government residence.

Chadha, in his appeal against the trial court's decision, emphasised that the cancellation of his accommodation was politically motivated. He stated that it was an attempt to silence a young and vocal parliamentarian.

Chadha pointed out that after delivering two speeches in parliament criticising the BJP-led government, his official accommodation was cancelled.

Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani reinstated an 18 April order of the trial court, which directed the Rajya Sabha Secretariat not to evict Chadha.

The trial court had ruled that Chadha does not possess an absolute right to retain his government bungalow throughout his tenure as a Rajya Sabha MP, even after the cancellation of the allotment.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear Chadha's case challenging his suspension from the Rajya Sabha. His suspension is linked to allegations of forging signatures and proposing names of other MPs for a committee without their consent.

The court has instructed the Rajya Sabha secretariat to address these accusations and has sought the assistance of the Attorney General of India, R Venkataramani. The case will resume on 30 October.
