Ajit Doval Says India Secure From Terrorism, Left-Wing Extremism Significantly Reduced Since 2014

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval asserted on Friday (31 October) that India has successfully controlled terrorism, noting that the country has not witnessed a major terror incident outside Jammu and Kashmir since 2013, reported The Times Of India.

Delivering the Sardar Patel Memorial Lecture on Governance, Doval stated, “The facts are facts, and they cannot be disputed. Terrorism in this country has been effectively countered. We had a major incident of terrorism on 1 July, 2005, and the last one in 2013 in the hinterland.”

He emphasised that while Jammu and Kashmir has remained “a theatre of a proxy war or covert warfare for Pakistan”, the rest of India has stayed secure from terror attacks.

He added that authorities have consistently made arrests and seized explosives to curb potential threats.

Highlighting a significant decline in left-wing extremism, Doval said the menace has fallen sharply since 2014.

“The left-wing extremism has reduced to less than 11 per cent areas than what existed in 2014. Most of the districts which had been declared as left-wing prone have been declared safe,” he remarked.

Doval cautioned that India’s adversaries remain active but commended the nation’s ability to maintain internal peace.

He underscored the importance of ensuring that every citizen feels secure against internal and external threats, saying this sense of security is vital for national stability.

He emphasised the importance of caring for the deprived, the weak, and the marginalised, highlighting that their empowerment is essential. He also stressed that ensuring women’s security, protection, equality, and empowerment is a key aspect of good governance in the modern world.
