Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav cited the Supreme Court judgment against 'bulldozer action' while campaigning for his party candidate Naseem Solanki in Sisamau assembly bye-elections.

Targeting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Yadav said, "What can you expect from those who know how to demolish houses? They don't even take a second to demolish a house."

Thanking the Supreme Court, the SP chief said, "At least, from today onwards, their bulldozer will come to a standstill and remain parked in the garage. Now no poor person's house will be demolished."

Expressing faith in the judicial system, he expressed hope that former Sisamau MLA Irfan Solanki, who was convicted in an arson case and disqualified from the legislative assembly, will be released from jail.

It is worth noting that Irfan Solanki along with four others, was convicted by the special court in Kanpur on charges of arson involving the residence of Fatima, a resident of the Defence Colony in Jajmau.

The court, in its judgment dated 7 June 2024, sentenced Solanki and his co-defendants to seven years of imprisonment. After this, he was disqualified, necessitating the bye-polls.

The SP then fielded his wife Naseem Solanki for the bye-elections scheduled for 20 November. While campaigning for her, Yadav hoped for the release of Irfan Solanki and his reappearance among the people.

It is ironic that while Yadav targeted Adityanath for allegedly demolishing people's houses, he is backing a former MLA of his party who was convicted of setting someone's house on fire for encroaching on it.
