Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (29 August) strongly condemned derogatory words allegedly used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during an INDI Alliance event in Bihar, reported India Today.

He asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to apologise.

“I want to urge Rahul Gandhi that if he has even a little bit of shame left, he must apologise to Modi ji, to his late mother, and to the people of this country. May God give wisdom to everyone,” Shah said.

He added, “What happened two days ago has pained everyone. Modi ji’s mother lived a life in a poor household, raised her children with values, and enabled her son to become a leader of trust. To use abusive words for such a life is something the people of India can never tolerate. There can be no greater fall in political life than this, and I strongly condemn it.”

Shah accused Congress of spreading a “culture of hatred” in politics. “The more the Congress abuses, the more BJP wins,” he said, while attacking Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra’.

The controversy erupted after a video from Darbhanga reportedly showed Congress workers using abusive language against PM Modi from a dais carrying posters of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Tejashwi Yadav.

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and several leaders also condemned the remarks.

Meanwhile, Darbhanga Police has arrested a man for making objectionable comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The accused, Mohammad Rizvi alias Raja, is a resident of Bhapura village in Singhwara.
