Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama is set to be released in theatres throughout India again on 18 October.

The animated film will be released in the original version as well as in several Indian languages like Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Yugo Sako's Ramayana is an anime film from the 1990s. It was co-produced by Japan and India. It takes Valmiki's Ramayana as the reference.

The re-release is being done in 4k ultra HD by Geek Pictures India in association with AA Films and Excel Entertainment.

The re-release comes amid a trend of re-releasing several Bollywood movies including Veer Zara, Tumbbad and Taal.

Critics argue that with Bollywood losing its charm in the past few years, it is an attempt to re-ignite the spark of lost fandom.

The Ramayana being re-released now was directed by Koichi Sasaki and Ram Mohan. The soulful music was composed by Vanraj Bhatia.

The film was premiered at the International Film Festival of India, as well as at the Vancouver International Film Festival.

A Hindi-dubbed version was eventually released in the late 1990s. Many known Indian actors gave voice to the Hindi version.
