A day after Congress' Lok Sabha candidate from Indore, Akshay Kanti Bam joined the Bharatiya Janata Party, six-time Congress MLA from Sheopur's Vijaypur Ramniwas Rawat too joined the BJP.

Notably, Rawat was also the working president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and was a Cabinet Minister when Digvijaya Singh was the Chief Minister.

Until last week, he was seen campaigning for Digvijaya Singh in the Rajgarh Lok Sabha constituency. Morena Mayor Sharda Solanki also joined BJP with Rawat.

Rawat was welcomed by MP CM Mohan Yadav into the BJP on Tuesday (30 April) during the campaign event for BJP's Morena candidate Shivmangal Singh Tomar in Sheopur.

Former MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra and state BJP president V D Sharma were also present. Mishra is also the state convener of BJP's committee for new joinings.

Madhya Pradesh Congress is having a hard time after the BJP won the 2023 Assembly elections with a thumping majority. Organisational troubles began when Jitu Patwari was appointed as the MPCC president.

The former MPCC president Kamal Nath is said to be sidelined and is known to have only focused on the Lok Sabha elections in Chhindwara to ensure victory for his son, Nakul Nath.

Yesterday, Indore became the second constituency after Surat to witness the withdrawal of a Congress candidate. Interestingly, both cities were joint winners of Swachhta Sarvekshan 2023.
