A tragic stampede near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru reportedly claimed 11 lives and left several others injured on Wednesday evening (4 June), as massive crowds gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title win, News 18 reported.

Thousands of fans had assembled at the stadium in anticipation of the team's arrival with the trophy, following RCB’s six-run victory over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

According to News18, many people are said to be injured and there are fears that the toll could increase. The injured have reportedly been taken to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital.

Visuals circulating online showed police personnel rushing unconscious and injured individuals to ambulances.

In light of the chaos, entry and exit gates at the nearby Cubbon Park metro station were shut down.

Following the tragedy, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has rushed to Bowring Hospital.

The incident sparked a sharp political backlash with the BJP blaming the Congress-led state government for what it termed “criminal negligence.”

In a post on X, the Karnataka BJP stated: “ 7 dead. Many are battling for life after a stampede due to the irresponsibility of Congress govt. No crowd control measures. No basic arrangements. Just chaos. While innocent people died, @siddaramaiah & @DKShivakuma were busy shooting reels & hogging limelight with cricketers. Shame on this photo-op Congress government. This is criminal negligence. Blood is on the hands of Congress govt..”
