At Least Three Maoists Killed In Encounter With Security Forces In Chhattisgarh's Bijapur

At least three Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district on Sunday (12 January).

According to Bastar range Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj P, the gunfight broke out in the morning at a forest in the Indravati National Park area when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxalite operation, news agency PTI reported.

The operation involved personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and the District Force.

An automatic weapon, explosives, and other weapons were recovered from the site by the security forces and further search operations are on.

Three Maoists were also killed on Thursday (9 January) in an encounter in Sukma district

On January 6 this year, Maoists blew up a vehicle with an IED in Bijapur district, killing eight police personnel and their civilian driver.

During a three-day long anti-Maoist operation by security forces in Abujhmad on the border of Narayanpur-Dantewada-Bijapur districts that concluded on 6 January, five Maoist, including two women, were killed.

Earlier, on 3 January, a Maoist was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Gariaband district, which falls in Raipur division.

Last year, 219 Maoists were eliminated by security forces in separate encounters in the State.
