Attacks On Hindus In Bangladesh After Hasina's Resignation: Sadhguru, Baba Ramdev And VHP Raise Concern

Leading Hindu spiritual leaders and organisations have raised concern on the violent attacks on properties and religious places of minorities in Bangladesh after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the violence-hit country.

Houses and business establishments of the minority Hindu community were attacked and their valuables were looted by mobs in 27 districts in Bangladesh on Tuesday (6 August), a day after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country.

Flagging the persecution of the minority Hindu community, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev said, "The atrocities being perpetrated against Hindus is not just an internal matter of Bangladesh. Bharat cannot be Maha-Bharat if we do not stand up and act at the earliest to ensure the safety of minorities in our neighborhood".

"What was part of this Nation unfortunately became neighborhood, but it is our responsibility to protect these people -who actually belong to this Civilization- from these shocking atrocities," he added.

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev said that the Islamic radicalism is expanding across the world and the manner in which has knocked at the neighbourhood of India, it can be dangerous for the country.

"There should be no cruelty or atrocity on Hindus in Bangladesh - be it the Hindus who are involved in trade there, or Hindu temples there, or Indians living there. For this, the entire country has to be united," he said.

He also expressed happiness on the unity shown by the government and the Opposition on the Bangladesh issue.

In a statement on Tuesday (6 August), the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) emphasised that the safety of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh should be ensured.

VHP President Alok Kumar said that in Bangladesh, the houses, shops, offices, business establishments of Hindus and women, children and even the centres of their belief, faith and worship such as temples and Gurudwaras are not safe.

He said that in such a situation it is the responsibility of the world community to take effective action for the safety of minorities and protection of human rights in Bangladesh.

Kumar also warned about a "big attempt" to orchestrate infiltration into the Indian territory through the 4,096-kilometre-long (2,545 mi) Indo-Bangladesh border, and urged the authorities to keep strict 24x7 vigil on the borders and not allow any kind of infiltration.
