After Sheikh Hasina's resignation on Monday (5 August), a mob lynched the famous producer of Bengali films Selim Khan and his son, actor Shanto Khan.

Selim Khan is known for directing Tungi Parar Miya Bhai, a movie based on the life of Sheikh Mujibur Rehman. He also had almost 10 films lined up at various stages of production.

On receiving news of Hasina's resignation, the father-son duo tried to escape and reached Farakkabad Bazar of Balia Union, where they were gheraoed by a mob.

They managed to escape by open firing but when they reached the nearby Bagarabazar area, an angry mob caught and killed them, The Daily Star reported quoting a police officer.

The said news hit Kolkata's Tollywood. Selim Khan's co-producer Arindam Das has an unreleased movie Commando with him. Many Tollywood actors have also been featured in Khan's movies.

Das expressed that the news of Khan's mob lynching left him numb. Actor Dev, who was in Khan's Commando called the news upsetting and hoped Bangladesh would return to normalcy.

Another actor, Bonny Sengupta who was supposed to be featured in Khan's upcoming movies Manob Danob and Chhuti, called the news shocking.
