Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday (1 November) declared that “being called a Bihari is not an insult, but an honour,” framing it as a symbol of pride under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government, reported The New Indian Express.
Delivering a pre-poll message, he said Bihar had transformed under the “double-engine” rule and would soon rank among India’s leading states if voters returned the NDA to power.
Nitish asserted that his government had uplifted every community, saying, “Be it Hindu, Muslim, upper caste, OBC, EBC, Dalits, or Mahadalits … we have worked for everyone.”
Highlighting social reforms, he said the NDA had empowered women and made them self-reliant, contrasting it with the previous government’s record.
“The previous government had done nothing for the women of Bihar. Today we have made women completely self-reliant. They can now work for their families and children,” he said.
In a veiled swipe at RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Nitish added, “I have never done anything for my family.”
NDA leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have consistently accused the opposition of dynastic politics. During his rally in Bihar on Thursday, Modi described Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav as “princes from corrupt families.”
Nitish Kumar credited the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government for Bihar’s development, emphasising that the NDA alone is capable of driving the state’s progress.
He appealed to voters to grant the alliance another term to sustain Bihar’s growth momentum.
Bihar has 7.42 crore voters, including 14 lakh first-time voters and 90,712 polling stations statewide.
