The Pink Line of Bengaluru’s Namma Metro is expected to see a partial opening by early 2026, with defence PSU BEML committing to deliver 20 trainsets for the corridor by March next year, the Deccan Herald reported.
BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy reportedly said that nearly half the work on the first trainset is complete.
“We are making strong progress in the manufacturing of trainsets for BMRCL, and are on track to deliver 20 driverless trains in the current financial year,” Roy was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.
He added that BEML plans to boost capacity, starting with the commissioning of Line 3A at its Bengaluru plant.
Further expansion will come from a new facility in Bhopal dedicated to rail and metro coach production, expected to double manufacturing capacity.
BMRCL MD M Maheshwar Rao welcomed the early delivery timeline.
“We expect the prototype train by September. The early delivery of trains will help us open the elevated section of the Pink Line by March,” Rao was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.
The 7.5 km elevated stretch (Kalena Agrahara-Tavarekere) is complete, while work continues on the 13.76 km underground section (Dairy Circle–Nagawara).
Train shortages have delayed Namma Metro’s Yellow Line (RV Road–Bommasandra, 19.15 km).
BEML won a Rs 3,177 crore contract in August 2023 to supply 318 coaches, 96 for the Pink Line and 222 for the Blue Line (Silk Board–Airport, 58.19 km), all equipped with CBTC signalling.
