The Pune Outer Ring Road project is progressing as financial bids for the last three packages have been opened where two firms have emerged as the lowest (L1) bidders.
Afcons Infra is set to receive the contract for package 6 of the eight-lane access-controlled greenfield road, while GR Infra has won the bid for packages 5 and 6.
With this, the bidding for all the packages of the Pune Outer Ring road has been completed. The aforementioned three packages lie between the Pune-Bengaluru highway (NH48) and Pune-Solapur highway.
The Pune Outer Ring Road will have a design speed of 120 kilometre per hour. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has been entrusted with the project's execution.
Despite initial delays due to funding challenges, the project gained momentum in September 2021 when the Maharashtra government approved Rs 26,831 crore for the 173-kilometer phase, covering construction and land acquisition expenses.
The first phase of the Pune Ring Road project involves constructing a 29.8-km stretch from Solu to Soratwardi on the Pune-Solapur Road, with an estimated cost of Rs 3,523 crore.
The second phase focuses on building a 36.73-km road from Soratwadi to Valve, projected to cost around Rs 4,495 crore. The third phase includes constructing a 38.34-km section from Urse to Solu along the Aland-Markal Road.
Finally, the fourth phase will involve the construction of a 68.8-km road segment. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had pitched the completion of this project in his electoral campaign.
