Former BJP Tamil Nadu state president K Annamalai on Thursday (12 June 2025) said that despite ideological differences between the BJP and AIADMK, the two parties are expected to work out a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
According to a report by Times of India, Annamalai acknowledged ideological differences — notably on the language policy, with the AIADMK backing a two-language formula and the BJP supporting a three-language model.
However, he said the leaders of both the parties would meet to finalise a shared framework ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly polls.
“Both parties will work together based on the CMP,” he said.
Annamalai also criticised the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the CB-CID that investigated the Anna University sexual assault case.
He said a video of another woman was found on the phone seized from convict A Gnanasekaran, and that the SIT failed to trace her identity.
“The SIT failed to investigate the identity of the woman, and the matter was concealed without a proper inquiry,” he said.
He added that his team had approached the survivor’s lawyer to request a CBI inquiry.
Referring to the defamation case filed by former Union Minister T R Baalu, Annamalai said he would appear in a Chennai court on 24 and 25 June to cross-examine Baalu.
The BJP leader said he would ask how Baalu and his family acquired their assets.
