The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday (20 October) released its first list of 99 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

BJP leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will contest from Nagpur South West, while state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been fielded from Kamthi.

State minister Girish Mahajan will fight from Jamner while minister Sudhir Mungantiwar will be contesting from Ballarpur.

Sreejaya Ashok Chavan, daughter of former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan, will contest from Bhokar while Ashish Shelar has been fielded from Vandre West.

This comes after a crucial meeting regarding the NDA alliance for Maharashtra assembly elections was held at Union Home Minister Amit Shah's residence on Friday.

The meeting lasted until around 2 AM and was attended by key figures including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

While both the ruling alliance Mahayuti and the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are yet to seal their poll deals, the BJP is set to remain the dominant party in the three-party Mahayuti alliance with the party planning to contest around 160 of the 288 Assembly seats.
