Ahead of the upcoming national election in a few months, the BJP has implemented an additional layer of scrutiny to assess the quality of leaders from other parties who express interest in joining the party.
The BJP has set up a new committee that has been tasked with the decision-making process of accepting or rejecting leaders aspiring to join the party, NDTV reported citing sources.
The BJP will only accept leaders from other parties after receiving approval from the committee.
This committee is set to hold its first meeting on 6 January.
It is reported that the concept of this committee was devised by the BJP to reduce the potential risk of accepting leaders who might not remain faithful to the party during challenging times or after elections.
Any leader from other parties who approaches to join the BJP but shows signs of reluctance or gives conditions may not pass through the filter of the new committee.
This comes as the party has been gearing up for the upcoming general elections for the Lok Sabha later this year.
