Canadian Hindu MP Chandra Arya on Thursday (20 March) said that the Liberal Party has revoked his nomination to run for re-election in Nepean.

The 62-year-old, who has been a vocal critic of Khalistani activities in Canada, has been a three-time MP and represented the Ottawa's Nepean seat since 2015.

He was informed of the decision in a letter from national campaign co-chair Andrew Bevan—just days before an expected election call.

The decision to remove him comes almost two months after the partybarred him from entering the leadership race to replace outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, a move Arya suggested raised “significant questions” about the race’s legitimacy.

The letter, shared by Arya on X, said new information obtained by the party's "green light committee" led the campaign co-chair to recommend that his "status as a candidate" be revoked.

Sharing the news on social media, Arya said, "I have been informed by the Liberal Party that my nomination as the candidate for the upcoming federal election in Nepean has been revoked. While this news is deeply disappointing, it does not diminish the profound honour and privilege it has been to serve the people of Nepean — and all Canadians — as their Member of Parliament since 2015".

"Over the years, I have poured my heart and soul into this role. I am immensely proud of the work I have done as a parliamentarian, the unwavering service I have provided to the residents of Nepean, the principled stands I have taken on issues that matter deeply to Canadians, and the causes I have stood up for — even when it was difficult, even when it came at a personal or political cost," he said.

"Serving my community and country has been the greatest responsibility of my life, and I remain grateful for every moment of it," Arya added.
